Types of Darts Bets: Yankee Betting

Picking one winning darts bet is good. Picking four is even better. And it’s nice to have a little insurance in case one of your selections lets you down. That’s where Yankee Betting comes in useful – and DartsTips.com will tell you all about it.

What’s a Darts Yankee Bet and How Does It Work?

A Yankee bet in darts is a type of multiple bet involving four different selections. Instead of just one accumulator, a Yankee creates 11 bets in total:

  • 6 doubles
  • 4 trebles
  • 1 four-fold accumulator

That means you don’t need all four darts selections to win to see a return. Two winners guarantee a winning double, three make a successful treble and it’s all four for the full house. In a nutshell, the more winning selections, the bigger the payout.

This makes the Yankee bet a good way to cover several matches or markets at once, reducing the risk – but it does mean an increased stake.

Darts Yankee Bet Examples

Hopefully that makes sense already… but everything looks a little clearer when you see it in action. That’s why we’ve put together an example of how Yankee bets work in practice.

To make life easier, we’ll stick to four match winner bets, all at the same price. But you can use different or mixed markets to build your Yankee, with differing odds.

Example: Premier League Darts

Four Premier League Darts Quarter-Finals take place every Thursday night, so this is the perfect opportunity to place a Yankee bet with some of the world’s best players going head to head.

  • Bet 1
Luke Littler to beat Rob Cross (1.80)
  • Bet 2
Luke Humphries to beat Chris Dobey (1.80)
  • Bet 3
Gerwyn Price to beat Stephen Bunting (1.80)
  • Bet 4
Michael van Gerwen to beat Nathan Aspinall (1.80)

And to keep things simple again, let’s place a stake of £5 per bet. With 11 bets forming a yankee, that’s a £55 combined stake.

If Bet 1 and Bet 2 win, but Bet 3 and 4 lose, that means one double has been a success and you’ll get a return of (1.80 x 1.80) x £5, which would be £16.20 in this instance. That would mean a loss overall, but some money back on your total bet.

However, if three players win, that means three out of your four doubles, plus one treble will have won. That will give you a return of £77.76. Three £16.20 doubles, plus an extra £29.16 (1.80 x 1.80 x 1.80).

If all four picks win, all 11 bets win – we’ll let you do the working this time, but it would be a total of £266.33 and over £211 of profit. Cha-ching.

In this example, two winning selections lead to an overall loss. If your Darts Yankee Bet consists of four bets of 3.50 or more – and two selections win – you’re guaranteed a profit.

When to Use Darts Yankee Bets

Whatever the tournament, whatever the round, whatever night – there’s a world of opportunity to place a Darts Yankee Bet. But with a bigger stake involved, use it wisely…

Early tournament rounds: It’s so easy to place an acca in the early rounds of the tournament, and we recommend it – but a Yankee bet gives you a bit of extra security. With a bunch of matches on the schedule, you can handpick your most four confident selections.

Mixing risk levels: Combining two safer bets at shorter odds with two outsiders is a good Yankee tactic. If two odds-on bets come in, you get a return. If one of the big price picks lands too, your profit will be looking a lot healthier!

Televised majors: Events like the World Championship, World Matchplay, or even Premier League Darts with its four nightly quarter-finals provide plenty of opportunities to build a four-leg Yankee, whether that’s match winners or combining other darts betting markets.

FAQs: Darts Yankee Bets

Q. What is a Yankee bet in darts?

A Yankee bet is a multiple bet, combining four selections to create 11 individual bets (6 doubles, 4 trebles, 1 four-fold). It involves a higher stake, but balances the risk of a single accumulator.

Q. How many winners do I need in a Yankee bet darts wager?

You need at least two winning selections to get a return. The more winners you have, the bigger your payout.

Q. Can I mix different darts markets in a Yankee?

Absolutely! It’s not all about match winners. Feel free to combine match winner darts, total 180s darts, handicap betting darts, or even outright markets into your Yankee.

Q. Is a Yankee better than an accumulator in darts betting?

There is less risk involved as a Yankee doesn’t require all four selections to win. However, it does require a larger total stake (11 bets instead of one). So as with all darts betting, it’s a balance of risk versus reward.
