Destination: Amsterdam! The World Series of Darts Finals returns to the Netherlands this September, when 32 of the world’s best darts players go for glory in one of the biggest events on the PDC Darts calendar.
Thousands of fans will descend on the AFAS Arena between September 12-14 to witness this special event, where Luke Littler will bid to retain the title he won in 2024.
In this article, we’ll look at the history of the competition, the events that led to this year’s Finals and offer expert predictions and darts tips – ‘cos that’s the real reason you’re here… right?!
What is the World Series of Darts Finals?
The World Series of Darts Finals is one of the most eagerly anticipated tournaments on the darts schedule, in part because the build-up begins all the way back at the start of the season.
Seven separate Masters events between January and August contribute towards the qualification, with seedings reflective of performance in those respective tournaments.
These invitational events don’t affect the PDC Darts rankings, but don’t let that take anything away from the importance of these Finals. The competition has grown and grown since its inception in 2015, and this year’s could be one of the most hotly contested to date.
History of the World Series of Darts Finals
World Series of Darts: The Early Years
The first World Series of Darts took place in 2015, with 24 players competing in Glasgow. Back then, there were five qualifying Masters events – proving this tournament has grown in size as well as significance.
After three years in Scotland, the tournament was taken to Europe with two editions taking place in Austria, but it eventually found its true home in Amsterdam’s AFAS Live arena.
Memorable Matches & Champions
Michael van Gerwen is the five-time champion since the World Series of Darts Finals took on its current format in 2015, including the first three in Glasgow. That very first final against Peter Wright remains one of the great showdowns, edging out the Scot 11-10 in a rollercoaster ride.
Welshman Gerwyn Price boasts two titles in 2020 and 2022 and the Iceman has been hot this season, but all eyes are on Luke Littler to see if he can repeat the feat of 2024.

Stephen Bunting and Luke Littler earned the top two seeds for the World Series of Darts Finals thanks to two title wins each. Bunting has held his top seed throughout, courtesy of January’s win in Bahrain and a follow-up success in June’s Nordic Masters.
Luke Littler went back-to-back in both August events in the southern hemisphere, and he’s the favourite to lift the trophy just like he did 12 months ago.
Fellow Englishmen Rob Cross and Luke Humphries won two of the other three events, with the former hoping for double Dutch delight – while Gerwyn Price came out on top in Poland back in July.
