Types of Darts Bets: Correct Score Betting

Correct Score Betting. Kind of self-explanatory, but there’s still a lot to learn before jumping straight into this market.

Correct score betting comes at a higher risk than other markets like match winner or handicap betting. But you know what they say. High risk, high reward…

What’s a Darts Correct Score Bet and How Does It Work?

A correct score bet does exactly what it says on the tin: you predict the exact outcome in a match. This market is available in all darts formats. In a race to 10 legs, you might opt for a 10-7 scoreline. In a sets format, perhaps you’d go for a 4–2 outcome in a best-of-seven.

This market is obviously harder to predict and does require a little bit of luck, which is why bookmakers offer much higher odds compared to some of the more common outcomes. But it doesn’t have to be a total stab in the dark.

DartsTips.com are here to show you why!

Correct Score Betting: DartsTips.com’s top tip!

Our top tip for correct score betting in darts is to cover multiple outcomes close to your prediction. Let’s say you think the final score will be 10–5, you might want to also place bets on 10–4 and 10–6.

If you’re a winner, at least two of those bets will lose – which means a hit to your overall profit – but it gives you a bigger and better chance of landing a win, still at nice odds.

Some bookmakers may offer grouped correct score betting, where you can back multiple correct scores in one bet (at smaller odds, of course). DartsTips.com will let you know all the options, all the time!

Darts Correct Score Betting Examples

It’s always nice to have a couple of examples, so let’s create some hypothetical clashes and odds so you can see how to put darts correct score betting into practice.

Example 1: Premier League Darts

Two of the sport’s best go head-to-head, as Luke Littler takes on Luke Humphries. With these two so evenly matched, the likelihood of a close game means the odds on small-margin victories will be lower.

Littler and Humphries are always expected to trade blows, so a wide-margin scoreline like 10-4 will be far bigger odds than a 10-7 or 10-8.

Luke Littler to win 10-8 (5.50 odds)
A successful £10 bet will return winnings of £55 – worked out simply as 10 x 5.5.

Any other scoreline and your bet will be settled as a loser.

Example 2: PDC World Darts Championship Round 1

Next stop, the PDC Worlds and a qualifier goes head-to-head with the Iceman, Gerwyn Price. This tournament is in a set format – so the odds are adjusted accordingly.

With Price expected to advance comfortably, this time the bigger discrepancy means the smaller odds, unlike our previous example.

Gerwyn Price to win 3-0 (2.5 odds)

A winning £50 bet on Price will return a handsome profit of £125… 50 x 2.5. Any other scoreline and your bet will be settled as a loser.

When to use Correct Score Betting in Darts

The darts correct score market works across every competition, regardless of whether the tournament is in leg or set format. From the PDC Worlds, to the Premier League, to the World Cup of Darts, it’ll be there. But when’s the best time to use it?

Another smart approach with correct score betting is to cover multiple outcomes around the same margin. For example, instead of just backing 10–5, you might also place smaller bets on 10–4 and 10–6. That way, you’re covering a cluster of likely results. Your overall profit will be a little smaller (because at least two of those bets will lose), but it gives you a wider safety net and a better chance of landing a win if the match plays out close to your prediction.

Close Contests

Correct score betting is perfect for matches between two evenly matched players. Top players have the ability to hold throw and make that advantage count, which in turn is more likely to lead to longer, tighter matches.

If you study head-to-head records, recent form and playing styles, you’ll have a good idea if a match is gonna go all the way. The odds on close games like 10-8 or 10-9 will be shorter in evenly matched games, but it’s still a bet packed with value.

Heavy Favourites

When a top seed goes head-to-head with unranked qualifiers, for example, you can expect a one-sided result. Correct score betting allows you to take full advantage, effectively boosting your odds on a match winner market.

In leg formats, a totally dominant 10-0 is not particularly likely. But the set format is a great way to go. In early rounds of tournaments, you’ll find multiple examples of high-seeded players seeing off less experienced counterparts by 3-0 scorelines – at much improved odds.

In-Play Betting

Momentum swings in darts are more common than in most sports, and that can be beneficial to correct score betting. If a favourite starts slowly, you can benefit from the fluctuating odds if you expect class to ultimately show through.

Pay close attention to the game at all times. Is a player missing doubles? Can’t buy a treble? Or rattled by the crowd? You can use all this to your advantage and back the opponent to pull away at an attractive price.

FAQs: Darts Correct Score Betting

Q. What is a correct score darts bet?

A correct score darts bet is a bet placed on the exact outcome of a match, in legs or sets. Unlike match winner or handicap bets, there’s no margin for error — your scoreline needs to be spot on.

Q. Why choose correct score betting over other markets?

If you’re after a bigger return, correct score betting is the way to go. Even small stakes can return significant wins. If you know your arrows and have an idea of how a match will play out, this market can lead to great reward… despite the extra risk.

Q. Can I use correct score bets in accumulators?

Yes… and no. We don’t recommend this in a legs format with big margins for error, but betting on multiple 3-0 set scorelines in the early rounds of a tournament is a great way to back favorites with a little extra value.
