Players Championship 2025: Tips, Winners and Tournament History

Butlin’s, Minehead. The legendary home of the 2025 Players Championship, where three days of relentless darts, quick-fire upsets and guaranteed drama on the iconic Board Two await.

After a stacked season, 64 players are ready to go in a bid for the final title of 2025.

What is the Players Championship?

This tournament always delivers. A season-ending epic in a famous location, with short formats early on and a seeding system unlike the majors.

With the seeding system based on results of the season’s player events, which not all players compete in, the likes of Luke Littler (36th) and Luke Humphries (58th) won’t get things all their own way.

Friday is non-stop Round One fun in a race to six, before a double bill on Saturday. Sunday sees the Quarters, Semis and Final take place. It’s arguably the best day of darts in the whole season!

History of the Grand Slam of Darts

Launched in 2009, Phil Taylor won the inaugural title (shock, we know!) in Purfleet – before the tournament found its long-term home at Butlin’s Minehead Resort, where it’s become a firm favourite on the PDC schedule.

Taylor notched some early titles, but it’s seven-time winner Michael van Gerwen who is the official king of Minehead. In recent years, it’s been all about Luke Humphries. Relegated to World Number 2 last week, Cool Hand Luke will be hoping to bounce back and take the title for a third straight year.

It’s not all about the big names though – there have been unpredictable winners and finalists over the years. Can DartsTips.com pick out one of them?
